Clothing Choices

The fashionista in you does not need to change just because you were diagnosed with IBD, although you might need to work a little harder to find the outfit that works best for you or as your weight fluctuates with the disease you might need to buy a few new sizes. The ileostomy can cause some challenges; however, the majority of people I work with and speak to would have no idea that I have it because I have learned how to dress successfully for my body. I love dresses and I wear a lot of suits. I pay attention to the cut of the dress, the thickness of the material, and where the jacket hits on my waist or hip area. I try to stay a little bit on the thin size so that it minimizes the pouch showing and gives me a flat plane for the wafer. I buy clothes that distract or camouflage the location of the pouch. You will need to try on different outfits, designers, etc to find what works best for you, but do not give up.
